Clayton WI Real EstateWhen one looks around the countryside surrounding the town of Clayton Wisconsin, it is not difficult to imagine that it got its start due to the very trees that engulf the landscape. Another boon to the logging and lumber industry which helped found the town of Clayton, was the fact that the railroad system ran through it, making the transporting of the milled timber easier and quicker than wagons had previously been able to do. After the lumbering era helped to establish Clayton, next came the immigrant families, mainly from the Scandinavian countries, Russia and Germany, who brought with them the present day continuing industry of dairy farming. Its population in the 2000 census was reported at 912 inhabitants and 507 of those residents reside in what is known as the village of Clayton. The quaintness of Clayton can be vividly imagined when one hears of some of the annual local events such as the Lutefisk dinner in October served at one of the town?s Lutheran churches, or the cabbage roll dinner served at another Lutheran congregation. There is also the annual Brew Fest held at the town?s Sportsmen Club and the Sollman Threshing Bee held in the harvesting month of August. For those thinking of moving to Clayton, the town is proud of its excellent educational program. There is an elementary school which consists of preschool through 4th grade. It was chosen as a Blue Ribbon School in 2006 and enrolls about 111 students. The middle school goes from grade five through grade eight with a bout 103 adolescents attending and the high school, with grades nine through twelve has an enrollment of just over 100 students.
